Birmingham Playing Pitch and Outdoor Sports Strategy

The Birmingham PPOSS, completed in April 2023, provides a clear, strategic framework in relation to the provision of playing pitch and outdoor sport facilities. Delivered in accordance with Sport England’s Playing Pitch Strategy (PPS) Guidance (for playing pitch sports) and its Assessing Needs and Opportunities Guide – ANOG (for non-pitch sports).  it covers all the facilities within the Birmingham City Council administrative area plus (to assess ‘imported’ and ‘exported’ demand) those close to the City in neighbouring authorities including Solihull, North Warwickshire, Lichfield, Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley and Bromsgrove.

This work, for what is the largest local authority in Europe, covers provision for pitch sports; football, cricket, hockey, rugby (union and league) American football, lacrosse, Gaelic football, baseball/softball, Australian football, kabaddi and Ultimate (frisbee) including all the artificial grass provision for these sports, plus bowls, cycling, golf, netball and tennis.

KKP produced a high quality piece of work which will support the wider development and planning process in Birmingham over the coming years. Its team was very responsive to the Council’s needs and took time to understand the city and the partners that we work with.
