Working directly for the Board and CEO, KKP assessed all aspects of the delivery and culture of British Judo’s elite programme in the four-year period running up to, and at, the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games. This included review of programmes, structures, staffing and governance of performance judo over the Olympic/Paralympic cycle running up to Tokyo 2020.
Individual and group-based interviews were conducted with executive staff, the performance director, all performance coaches, S&C, SS, SM and ACE coaches/advisers and 60+ athletes based centrally and at a range of designated performance centres across the UK. The process led to recommendations about the format, management, staffing basis and systems via which the performance programme will be managed – most of which have been implemented.
KKP was subsequently commissioned to produce a feasibility study to assess the potential to develop a national performance centre for judo and Olympic combat sports in central England.
