This strategy incorporated evaluation of the quality, location and community demand for areas that are generally ‘free-to-use’ and designed primarily for play, informal activities, communal recreation and/or social interaction. Recognising the wider role of parks and open spaces it covered playgrounds, equipped play areas, MUGAs, outdoor gyms/callisthenics training areas, skateboard/roller-sports areas, parkour and outdoor table tennis tables. We provided detail with regard to location, access, condition, distribution, adjacence to key communities and overall quality. The resulting detailed and robust evidence base underpinned the City Plan (2020-2040) and is being used to inform decisions on future strategic planning and investment priorities for play facilities across the city.
